LAS-840 laser aiming system was launched in 1998 and described as a "compact and rugged" unit that can be securely attached to various weapons. It is used on F88/F88S Steyr rifles, F89 Minimi machine guns and the H&K MP5 submachine gun. Brackets are also available for the Colt M16 rifle and other mounting rail systems including the Picatinny rail.
Description
The unit produces a tightly collimated beam at 840 nanometres, making the aiming spot visible only when viewed through night vision equipment.
Pertinent information
- Class 3B eye-safe in accordance with AS/NZS2211.1:1997
- Output beam projects well defined aim-point
- Precise and secure windage and elevation adjustment
- Operates from single AA cell battery in the voltage range 1.1V DC to 3.6V DC
- Low battery indicator - beam pulses
- Reverse polarity protection
- Operation controlled by four position rotary switch located on LAS-840 body (off/momentary continuous/momentary pulsed/continuous)
- Momentary mode activated by detachable, remote momentary action switch
- Small size, lightweight and fits to wide range of weapons with mounting brackets to suit specific weapon platforms
- Sealed, all metal construction
- Maintenance limited to battery replacement and unit cleaning
- Training filter - Provides Class 1 eye-safety in accordance with AS/NZS2211.1:1997
- Transit case for all items
